Member Profile: Gregory Horowitz

Introduction

My name is Gregory I. Horowitz and I am from Greenlawn, NY. Even from a young age, I have always had a knack with working with children. At first, it was a nuisance and a sense of responsibility I wasn't interested in accepting but as I got older, I came to embrace my skills and tried to utilize them. I begun volunteering in early elementary classes throughout high school and I worked as a camp councelor during my summers. I came to love my skills and the opportunities seemed to be endless from their. I have never been strong in mathematics or sciences, so I concentrated on my strengths which lie in the fields of history and English. Though I do not plan on ever "expanding" on those fields, I feel that they are one of the best things about me. I have an unnatural interest in the past, both in literal and historical contexts. Though I do know that I won't be following these paths, they may very well help in my goal of becoming a teacher for elementary age children. I feel that there is a great sense of possibilities that may come from my various talents; I just need to achieve my goal of putting them all together.

As for my interests that aren't academic, there are many. My first love was music. From an early age, I've always been a great admirer of the Beatles and the classic rock of that era. This love of music, which I still have today, has led me through many doors. I have come to learn to play the bass guitar and have tried my hand at "modern" music, which I have come to like. I also enjoy sports. Coming from New York, it is essential that you cheer on your home teams. I have a special admiration for the Mets, Jets, and Knicks. Though I am not a "crazy" sports fan, I will always cheer on the home team. Finally, I am a self-admitted "homebody". I have three dogs at home who I love and I am a very family-oriented person. I come from a tightly knit family that has always been together. In fact, this college experience is the first time that I have been away from home alone. I'm glad that you now have had the opportunity to get to know me, I hope in the coming months to get to know you.
